No matter which type of mountain terrain you prefer, Maestro Suspension Technology enhances the capabilities of your bike and elevates your performance. Whether you ride fast-paced trails or robust downhill tracks, this adaptable rear suspension platform provides you with increased control, traction, comfort, and speed.
Maestro employs four strategically positioned pivot points and two linkages that work together to create a single floating pivot point. This innovative design enhances pedalling efficiency by counteracting the forces generated during pedalling that would otherwise lead to suspension compression (squatting) or pedal kickback (bobbing).
Maestro's near-vertical wheel path and linear spring curve enable the rear suspension to effectively respond to both small and large impacts without "packing up" during rapid, successive hits or bottoming out on significant impacts. Consequently, the contact between your tires and the trail is greatly improved, enhancing traction, acceleration, cornering, and braking.
From high-frequency vibrations on the trail to intense compressions, Maestro absorbs the full range of trail impacts, providing you with a smoother ride across all types of terrain.
Whether you're climbing with all your strength or powering through a rocky section, Maestro consistently delivers optimal performance under pedaling power without compromising efficiency.
Even under full braking force, Maestro Suspension remains active, ensuring your tires maintain contact with the trail and offering you better traction at all times.
Embark on an in-depth exploration of the kinematics (suspension analysis) behind Maestro Suspension Technology. Gain insights into its unique wheel path, linear leverage ratio, anti-rise characteristics, and anti-squat performance—each meticulously engineered to unlock the utmost potential of your mountain biking experience.
When the suspension compresses due to an impact, the swingarm's trajectory and the rear wheel's direction dictate the performance of the suspension system. Maestro's nearly vertical and steep-arcing wheel path plays a vital role in its activity, efficiency, and independence. A linear shock ratio ensures smooth suspension travel at the initial stroke, progressively firming up towards the end of the stroke, thanks to the nature of air compression.
This combination results in one of the secrets behind Maestro's "bottomless" suspension feel, providing exceptional performance over the entire range of trail impacts.
Many suspension designs exhibit poor performance when the rear brake is engaged. In certain cases, the rear disc brake can either "drive" or "lift" the suspension swingarm, causing unwanted extension or compression—undesirable characteristics while navigating challenging terrain. However, Maestro's carefully calculated neutral floating pivot point keeps the system unaffected by brake input, ensuring outstanding suspension performance. The result is perfectly balanced suspension during the most demanding descents.
Anti-squat refers to the suspension's behaviour under pedalling force. Most suspension designs incorporate a certain level of anti-squat to stabilize suspension movement while pedalling. Excessive anti-squat can cause the suspension to lock out completely during pedalling, while insufficient anti-squat leads to inefficient bouncing during acceleration. Striking the right balance is crucial, so Maestro suspension utilizes a higher level of anti-squat during the initial 50% of travel, gradually transitioning to reduced anti-squat during the second half of its travel. This configuration provides an efficient pedalling platform on smooth terrain while allowing unrestricted suspension travel on larger impacts.
